Aveda Style Tips for Beautiful Wedding & Occasion Hair
What with the royal wedding giving us all the gushy feelings on May 19th Aveda artists can hardly be blamed for turning their attention to the obvious: Wedding season. It’s made all the more exciting that here in our Guildford salon and spa we have TWO impending nuptials in the making from super stylist Kelly Ross and sweetheart beauty therapist Charlotte Bratchell
Given that June is a time for proms, weddings and summery outdoor gorgeousness, what better time than to focus on the updo?
From messy side buns with funky flower accessories for a tropical look to smooth and tailored French twist, to the brides gorgeous twisted, curled and plaited creations it’s all about choosing the right look for the occasion and outfit.
Aveda artists in Walton and Guildford have been putting their heads together to come up with the best top tips for updos, as well as which products will work best in helping you achieve your best look.
Getting your hair done in a special way can really mark the occasion as stand out and it seems everybody appreciates a special effort being made with an updo.
The trick is not as you’d think to use an entire can of hairspray! This can really make hair look hardened, which is not the end result you’re looking for. Instead, think about where you need texture and where you need shine and frizz control. With the right skills you can achieve a flawless look that feels effortless and classic all in one.
Using Shampure Dry Shampoo can really help give the hair some texture and grip to keep it from slipping out of control. Equally, Aveda stylists recommend Brilliant Humectant Pomade to keep the frizz under control as well as offer a clean shine.
Hairspray has to be Avedas Brilliant Medium hold – it cleverly repels humidity (a must in the warmer months) and adds perfect shine without grease.
Prepare your hair
Prep is everything with updos.. You want clean hair rather than unwashed so it smells fresh and won’t get congested with products before you’ve started. What your hair looks like before you start putting it up is how it will look in the end result so frizz and grease translates through into the final styel.
Adding texture by washing with Shampure Dry shampoo and Aveda Texture tonic works well, or if you’re going for a smooth look head towards Aveda Smooth Infusion. Want wavy? Try Aveda Pure abundance style-prep.
To give your stylist the absolute best chance of getting the look you want, bring plenty of pictures – the Aveda pinterest has a lot of fabulous updos to take inspiration from.
For your own attempts at updos, our stylists recommend starting with a simple ponytail! Low ponytails signify elegance whereas tight and high up creates drama and angles in your face you didn’t know you had! Go from casual to glamourous by simply wrapping a medium strand of your own hair around the hair band. Other tips and suggestions might be to curl the ends of your pony for a bouncy cute and lifted look or leave a section out on top and backcomb it to create a funky on trend and powerhouse look. Plaits and braids will always add a feminine quirky depth that look pretty and fashionable.
Remember, you’ll need a ton of hair grips at the ready so keep a ready supply at hand if you’re doing your own or a friends hair.
