Tell us About Your Life Outside MAW?
I’m originally from Yateley in Hampshire, but at the end of last year I moved in to an apartment in Farnborough with my long term boyfriend. In my spare time I love to spend quality time with my family and friends. And when I’m not seeing them, I like to keep active at the gym. I’m really interested in beauty as well as hair and love trying out the latest colours in the nail bar upstairs or experimenting with the LVL lash extensions and new Aveda makeup bits – I admit I’m a true girly girl!
What’s your Job Title at Mary Ann Weeks Aveda?
I’ve just qualified this year as a fully fledged Aveda hairdresser and I’m so pleased! It’s been a real journey and plenty of hard work learning my craft as a stylist, but it’s been the best way to get into the industry. I have been so passionate about hairdressing for such a long time and I love that I’ve finally reached my goal after years of working towards it.
Describe in a Few Words What You Do
I’ve had expert tuition in all the different Aveda colour and cutting techniques and so can take on almost any guests hair. In hairdressing you never really stop learning, so I’m always picking up new experience with each guest I work with. Because of COVID19 we work individually with each guest from start to finish so I do everything that entails from sweeping the hair away to washing hair and massaging heads to greeting guests, mixing colour, answering the phone and all those jobs that keep things ticking along.
How Long Have You Worked With Us?
I’ve been at Mary Ann Weeks Aveda Guildford for three years now which has genuinely flown by! I do really enjoy my job and the people I get to work with a lot!
What are Your Favourite Things About Working With Aveda?
I love how all the ingredients in Aveda products are sourced from sustainable or renewable plant based origins. And how the aromas are so unique and amazing you can smell them from a mile away. Its lovely working in a place that smells so great all the time! I also love the bespoke training we get to do sometimes with the stylists who teach me things they specifically know. Learning from different sources really interests me because everyone has their own style.
What’s Your Best Memory of Working Here?
Having the opportunity to go up to the Aveda Head Quarters in London for 2 day training classes to learn all about the products and colouring. It’s an amazing building with lots of wow factor and it was so much fun, I learnt so much and I feel like that was one of the best experiences to getting me qualified!
What’s Your ‘Go To’ Aveda Product and Why?
I love the whole ‘Damage Remedy’ range, the shampoo, conditioner, daily repair, split end repair, the list goes on! This stuff really works! I have seen really damaged hair become smooth and shiny again after only one treatment and it’s great being able to recommend something you know actually works.
A top tip for those who can’t put the curling tongs and straighteners down, a daily dose of our ‘damage remedy daily hair repair’ is one of our best sellers, the leave in treatment protects against damage from heat styling up to 45O degrees.
If You Could Nominate Anyone at MAW Aveda for an Award for Something, What Would the Award Be and Who For?
If I could nominate everyone then I would because everyone is so lovely! But it would have to be to Directors Galina and Paul as they specifically trained me from the very beginning. Their skills and techniques are both amazing – and both so different! They inspire me everyday.
What Do You Use On Your Own Skin?
Aveda hand relief cream is a must for me. After a busy day of washing hair where my hands are constantly in water it is important to keep them hydrated and protected. The hand relief cream leaves them visibly smoother and softer and not sore any more! It’s the best hand cream I have ever tried!
What’s Your Top Hair Tip?
Before applying conditioner, it’s important to make sure you really towel dry your hair first so that the conditioner can really penetrate into the hair more deeply. If it is soaking wet the conditioner will just run off your hair and won’t do what it’s suppose to do!
How Do You Like to Relax After a Busy Day at the Spa?
I like to cook a delicious meal for dinner and then put my feet up in front of my favourite TV program and relax with a cup of tea.
