Well liked and friendly Jodie Scott completes her Aveda stylist training and is very excited to be qualifying as a prestigious Aveda stylist at our Walton salon. Hard working Jodie is passionate about hair (not to mention having an amazing set of locks herself!) and we’re delighted she’ll be ready to go out and establish herself in the crazy creative and universal industry that is hairdressing! Like all of our Aveda artists, Jodie is warm and friendly, with a creative edge and consistent reliable skills. Let’s find out more about what Jodie likes to get up to outside her working life as well as her favourite things about life within Aveda….
Tell us about your life outside MAW? Eg: hobbies/where are you from/family?
Hiya, I’m Jodie and I’m 20 years old. I live in Sunbury-On-Thames in Surrey. I’m part of a big family so I try to see them as much as I can. I’m a bit of a film buff, so I enjoy going to the cinema frequently and keeping up with the latest flicks. My guilty pleasure was watching Disneys latest film The Nutcracker – I love a Christmas movie! Long walks with my dog are my way of escaping and almost like a moving meditation so that’s another of my pass times, whatever the weather… plus my dog won’t leave me alone if I don’t! Obviously I love going out with my friends too – and we enjoy the occasional drink on a night out. I’m a self confessed shopaholic and pay day doesn’t last too long. My other passion is trips away exploring anywhere and everywhere and I absolutely adore holidays – doesn’t everyone?
What’s your job title?
I am an apprentice at Mary Ann Weeks which is where I’ve been for 2 years now and it’s sweet relief and a real triumph to be finally coming to an end… I can’t wait to qualify and be a real proper stylist – a dream come true!
Describe what you do in a few words?
I’m still doing all the junior jobs, like keeping the salon tidy, mixing colour for the stylists, washing guests hair, serving guests and making sure they’re comfortable and have everything they need, doing the Aveda ritual stress relieving massages including hand massages. I love training which is where I get to explore and practice everything hair from cuts, colours, blow drys and treatments. Let’s just say I’m pretty busy!
How long have you work at the salon?
I have worked at the salon for 2 years this September which I know is a cliche but it’s whizzed by!
What’s your favourite thing about working with Aveda?
I love the Aveda way – I think like everyone else, the more I learn, but more I love it. As a salon it’s really totally unique because of the ethics behind the brand. I think it attracts a type of person that’s pretty caring and aware of the environment and that kind of binds us all together. The products, experience, the smells are just all so lovely and natural, coming to work is one of my favourite smells! No nasty chemicals here! The colour we use is so nice for the hair which is nourishing and has natural oils inside so it’s not damaging for the hair. You can really feel the difference to all the other brands on the market and always leaves the hair so shinny and rejuvenated. The Aveda products are great because of things like being sulfate and silicone free, not tested on animals and having recycled packaging.
What’s your best memory of working here?
The best memories for me would have to be our Christmas and summer work events. We all have such a laugh together and get on really well as a big team which I think is so important and spending time all together. It’s that which is what our guests say they love when they come in – we are all in sync and genuinely have a happy workforce.
What’s your ‘go to’ Aveda product?
My go to Aveda product would have to be the damage remedy daily hair repair. This products literally works wonders and I have seen it time and time again transform our guests hair. Split ends are reduced up to 26% (Aveda geek stat there!). I honestly love this product because it’s so good for moisture on all hair types and let’s face it, who doesn’t want good hair?!
If you could nominate anyone at MAW Aveda for an award for something, who would you nominate and why?
Ooo this is seriously hard to answer … because I honestly love all the Walton team and everyone has helped me with all sorts of advice over the years! Okay, so a decision, I would have to say Alicia… she has been genuinely amazing and supportive with the in-house training and I don’t know if I could have done it without her. Thank you Alicia.
What do you use on your own skin?
I love the Aveda hand relief on my skin, because working with hair you basically spend a lot of time washing your hands and getting them wet, so dry skin can get pretty sore… In the winter months when your hands are prone to getting cold as well it can be extra important to keep them moisturised. Aveda hand relief contains Andiroba oil and is insanely intense moisture!
What’s your top beauty hack?
My top beauty hack would have to be getting plenty of sleep, eating a balanced diet and drinking lots of water every day for healthy hair and skin…. and using all the Aveda products naturally! 🙂
How do you relax after a busy day at the spa?
Total cliche but I absolutely LOVE to have a hot bath with the Aveda Stress Fix Soaking Salts, followed by relaxing curled up on the sofa watching my favourite shows.. and a lie in… I love lie ins!
